Whatsapp Chat History : How to avoid chat backing up?

1.    WhatsApp has been one of the revolutionary social networking application on the lines of various past hits like Facebook, one time orkut etc and today has a huge user base in billions exchanging all kinds of official, unofficial, personal chat kind of communications.Off course keeping a backup of all these chats is sometimes essential and in few cases for whatever reasons of the user base it is not required....the users wanna refrain from backing up anywhere any kind of history..no tell tale signs to be recovered...Although I have seen people ensuring themselves deleting the chat as it happens but that’s not a technically sound way to ensure nothing is being backed up

2.   For those who want to ensure a back up ...Daily at 0400 am the Whatsapp Auto backup is taken by the app itself so no need to worry for this and if you switch off or activate flight mode at night then one might need to take manual backup. For those who do not want any backup , a simple procedure as shown below will ensure a blank backup.

3.   Goto your Android application screen and search for MyFiles :

Choose the location where you have the default whatsapp files..in my case the default saving location is internal sd card.Click this and you look for the Whatsapp folder.

Further go inside Whatsapp folder and look for Databases....delete every thing inside this before 0400 cycle comes again. That should work....here the 0400 cycle backups the entire thing but defacto there is nothing to upload and backup.

Wanna sync Two Harddisks / Two Folders : GRSYNC is there for you!!!!

1.   I have two harddisks of 500 gb and I have loads of data in both...but i could never find out time to set my data at one place and then make a clone kindda or a bakup of the other...it is a herculean task if you keep updating your one harddisk regulary...so the crude rule says that you must copy the updated folder to the backup drive and then keep replacing the older one's....but if the data is too much and the files are in thousands and you have lesser time wouldn't you like to simply click one button and auto syn the complete folder or the harddrive at one go!!!!!What if you have the following GUI that give a whole lot of options to play around...like in the screen shot below :

2.  Isn't this simple and great...no need to bug yourself trying to find what was old and what is newer...what to keep and what not to keep... you simply see the options above and you will be able to figure out how helpful this utility can be if u have not been suing this till date....The best part is that it is very simple to use.

3.   Grsync is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the rsync synchronization tool under Linux / Unix System. There are also ports of Grsync on Windows and OS X platforms. Grsync is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), so it is free software, and makes use of the GTK+ UI toolkit. In addition, it has support for the Unity user interface. It can be effectively used to synchronize local directories and supports remote targets (although in a limited way).

How do u install this in FEDORA ?

 4.   A simple type yum install grsync with root privileges will do the needful.....

Security Design @ WebHosting

1.  At a time today when new websites are being hosted at quite a pace, proportional is the pace of hacking and defacing of these websites.Today you have a website maker in the market who may simply demand some Rs 500/ per page design and few more hundreds for hosting it...and we all are ready to do pay him....but at what price....is it simply the final handing over taking over of the password that closes the deal between you and the designer/hoster?....NO....I rate it equivalent to the toss....thereon the match begins.....just a matter of time depending on what all security parameters/variables/factors you took into consideration while designing it?

2.  Specially concerned with web sites who have E-Commerce and transactions or who deal with handling database of huge sizes which can be critical later on, if compromised any time. The following factors should be noted down and infact dealt with seriously to be kept on high priority while designing and final hosting :

- Password /Data Protection : You must have a sound password and methods to protect all the DATA in place.

- OS/Server hardening : You use a windows or a linux....rest assured you must always used a hardened OS/Server.

- OS Selection : Create and design on any OS...today you can launch it on web.A more vulnerable OS which has had a history of hacks and known exploits should be avoided.

- DDoS Protection : Shared hosting servers are vulnerable to attacks by hackers who carry out their work by uploading malware or otherwise malicious sites or code onto a server. These malware programs be introduced to a server through security vulnerabilities in a legitimate client’s site, and the malware is used for anything from stealing credit card data to launching a DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service attack. So think before you fire up your site.

- Spam filters : No explanations

- Firewalls : Must...so many types in market : Decide like what you r going to select a HARDWARE FIREWALL or a SOFTWARE FIREWALL.The selection is of crucial significance in deciding the overall security rating!!!

- BACKUP : You must have a way to keep backing up all your data. Some ploicy should be designed of what happens if owing to some kind of reason you loose all ur data....mirror or offline backup!!!!anything...but keep in mind.

- SSL enabled server : MUST

- SFTP: Though FTP is not that bad....but when SFTP is there....y bank on a relatively lower secured protocol......
